Originally created for the Aku Aku Restaurant (1960-1980) at the Stardust Hotel (2021-2006) by artist Eli Hedley, the Aku Aku sculpture was donated to Clark County in 1987 and was installed on the island of Sunset Park’s pond in 1988.

The Aku Aku sculpture was one of the first public sculptures cared for by the Clark County Public Arts Office.

The Aku Aku sculpture originally had a “twin” which now resides in the Tiki di Amore, a local tiki-themed restaurant, along with smaller sculptures from the Aku Aku Restaurant.
