"COMMUNITY; COMMUNIDAD"
The colorful and vibrant pair murals were crafted because of a unique collaboration between Vozzola and the Von Tobel Middle School Students. Over a span of 5 weeks, the artist engaged directly with the students, allowing them to share their perspectives, experiences, and stories. The murals are a true reflection of the insights gained from this collaboration, serving as a testament to the power of art as a medium for community expression. The project was approved by the County Commission in 2021 using the County’s Arts Plan Funding. The murals will be dedicated on Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 8am -11am.
Portions of the students' sketches from their engaging activities have been seamlessly integrated into the exterior mural. This approach fosters a sense of ownership and pride among the students, as they see their own creativity become an integral part of this public artwork.
Eric Vozzola is an artist and designer based in his hometown of Las Vegas, NV. His artwork is known for vibrant color palettes and nods to Eric’s surrounding desert environment. He creates mini-universes full of wonder, which balance his appreciation for abstraction, geometry, realism, color theory, and nature. Eric finds purpose and inspiration with his artwork through the love of supporting his wife and their two sons, to advocate for protecting the environment, and creating meaningful and colorful artwork that is accessible to all communities.
Eric received his BFA in Graphic Design from UNLV in 2011. Eric has shown studio work in solo and group shows locally and nationally, and has created murals and public artworks all over the Las Vegas valley and Henderson, NV, as well as in Reno, NV, and Portland, OR. Eric formerly held a decade-long, agency and in-house graphic design career, while building his fine art and mural practice alongside, but left his “9-5” design career in early 2019 to pursue his thriving art career, full-time.
