Unseen and Unheard
“Unseen and Unheard”
By Darian M. Geenen
SCOPE
The Clark County Parks & Recreation Department’s Public Arts Office opened a request for qualifications for an artist who can design, fabricate, install an art exhibit, and be an advocate for supporting awareness of foster care. The artist was to use the numbers to create a public art installation. The experience to be conveyed through a visual representation is for viewers to observe and contemplate the staggering number of foster youth that are involved with the COUNTY foster care system, contrasted with the limited number of available foster homes. The overall objective is to serve as a call-to-action for viewers to get involved with Family Services’ foster homes.
DESCRIPTION
As the world revolves around a child without a home, the child feels unseen from the world and the life that surrounds them. Clark County Department of Family Services has partnered with local artist Darian M. Geenen to present this art exhibit to bring attention to the needs of the 3,000 Unseen and Unheard children currently in foster care in Clark County. The exhibit traveled from Downtown Summerlin, to Rotunda Gallery at the Clark County Government Center, and to the Boulevard Mall in Summer of 2022. Four paintings and one sculpture that were part of the exhibit are on permanent display and can be seen at Clark County Department of Family Services, in suite 202 at Greystone Building 1850 E. Flamingo Rd. Las Vegas NV 89119.
Downtown Summerlin – May to June 2022
