Zap 10 Outreach Project

Zap 10 Outreach Project

As part of CCPA's expanded Education and Community Outreach programming, Zap 10 marked the development of the Zap 10 Education Outreach Project, with the Walnut Afterschool Program. Clark County artists, Brent Holmes & Sonia Limon, worked with a variety of students in the recreation center's Afterschool Program in September & October, following the conclusion of the regular Zap 10 program. Participating students were introduced to the basics of art, design and definitions of public art. From the classroom, the students then moved into the realm of actual Zap! box creation. Several of the Zap 10 artists returned to Walnut Recreation Center to help mentor the kids who participated in painting of the water boxes, set-aside for the kids to collaborate and create their own original designs. These boxes are located in front of the ABC Preschool building, by Walnut Recreation Center, on the Zap 10 Walking Map.

In mid-November, after the students' workshops and box painting activities were complete, the College of Southern Nevada – Fine Arts Gallery hosted a special Pop-Up Art Show and Closing Night Reception, to help celebrate this new education outreach component.

If you are inspired by art you see, please help to create and share it!

What would your Zap! box look like, if you were a selected artist? Download and print out the "Paper Craft Box" (click link), then create your design, cut it out, fold it together, take a photo of your finished box, and post it to our new public Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CCPublicArts/
