We want everyone to enjoy the holiday safely, so let's talk about how we can keep our community safe and vibrant by properly using “Safe and Sane” fireworks avoiding illegal fireworks.

The Scoop on Safe and Sane Fireworks

Let’s start with what’s allowed. "Safe and Sane" fireworks are the only ones permitted in Clark County. These are the kinds that you can find at local stands between June 28 and July 4. They include items like sparklers and fountains that stay on the ground and don't explode or fly through the air. Always look for the “Safe and Sane” label to make sure you’re using legal fireworks.

Remember, fire danger is high around the region, so no fireworks of any kind are allowed at Clark County Wetlands Park and other local parks, or on public lands including Mount Charleston, Lake Mead and Red Rock Canyon.

Why Illegal Fireworks Are a No-Go

Illegal fireworks might look exciting, but they come with serious risks. These are the fireworks that explode, shoot into the air, or move along the ground in an uncontrolled manner. Not only can they cause severe injuries, but they can also start fires, damage property, and frighten pets and wildlife. Plus, they're against the law in Clark County, and there are penalties for using them.

How You Can Help

We need your help to keep our neighborhoods safe. Here are a few ways you can pitch in:

• Report Illegal Fireworks: If you see or hear illegal fireworks, don’t hesitate to report them. We recommend using the online fireworks reporting tool at ISpyFireworks.com or you can call 311 if you don't have internet access.
• Be Mindful of Your Neighbors: Not everyone enjoys fireworks. Be considerate of people who might have PTSD, young children, and pets who can be easily frightened.
• Attend Professional Shows: Instead of lighting your own fireworks, consider attending one of the many professional fireworks displays around the valley. These shows are spectacular and safe for the whole family.

A Few Safety Tips

If you do decide to use "Safe and Sane" fireworks, here are some tips to ensure everyone stays safe:

• Always have a bucket of water or a hose nearby, and don’t use fireworks near buildings, vehicles, dry brush, and bystanders.
• Watch for children and pets, handle fireworks properly, and keep others a safe distance from them.
• Never attempt to relight or handle malfunctioning fireworks.
• Soak used fireworks in water overnight before disposing of them.
