Communications in an Emergency

Safety for our residents and the more than 40 million tourists who visit our community annually is a priority for Clark County government. The Office of Public Communications works closely with the Office of Emergency Management to keep residents and visitors safe and informed about emergency preparedness.

The County has been proactive in developing safety resources before and since the Sept. 11 attacks. In recent years, we beefed up our Joint Information Center (JIC), a component of the County's Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Through the JIC, the County communicates with the public and the new media, providing situation updates via news releases, bulletins, news conferences and other means.

In an emergency, news conferences and other emergency information is aired live on Clark County Television (CCTV) Channel 4 and over this website. Public information also is provided through a prerecorded emergency telephone line at (702) 223-INFO (4636). Additionally, if warranted, telephone lines are set up so that members of the public may call the JIC directly.

If the EOC is activated, a room will be set up at the Clark County Government Center where credentialed news media can go to a central location to get questions answered and access up-to-the-minute updates.

During an emergency, information will be disseminated via the Internet, radiotelevision, social media and through Clark County Television (CCTV) Channel 4.
