Law Clerks, Externships, and Internships
The Clark County Public Defender’s Office welcomes applications from law students and recent graduates for opportunities during the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters.
We work closely with law schools across the country to coordinate externships for academic credit, as well as internships and volunteer opportunities for those seeking hands-on legal experience in indigent defense.
Opportunities
Depending on placement, selected candidates may:
- Assist attorneys in evidentiary hearings, jury selection, and trials.
- Attend and participate in client and witness interviews.
- Review discovery, identify legal issues, and contribute to case strategy.
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda.
- Draft motions and other legal pleadings.
- Observe court proceedings and gain exposure to real-world criminal defense practice.
Desired Qualifications
The strongest candidates will demonstrate:
- A commitment to protecting the constitutional rights of indigent clients.
- A strong work ethic and professionalism.
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
- A desire to learn through hands-on legal experience.
