Catastrophic (CAT) leave is a full sick leave payment at the employee’s base hourly rate. CAT leave may be for an employee’s own medical condition or an employee’s qualifying family member’s medical condition. The employee or qualifying family member must have a catastrophic illness/injury requiring inpatient care at a medical facility, and/or one that qualifies for Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), or Americans with Disabilities Act (ADAA) leave necessitating prolonged care for more than eight (8) weeks.
