Don’t be duped!
Several people have reported receiving strange and, often times, clever calls or messages from a cloned “Office of the Sheriff” phone number demanding payment for:
• Warrants
• Missed jury summons
• Missed fee for a professional license and threatening suspension for non-payment
• Other specific fine for a violation
The scammers sound very official and use a fake Deputy or Sergeant name while asking for money transfers, “Green Dot” cards, or similar forms of payment (like gift cards) to settle the fees or fines.
The calls show they are coming from 702-455-5400.
This recent rash of fraud appears to be on the increase.
Bottom line: LVMPD does not ask for money by phone.
If you receive a similar call or message, simply hang up or ignore it.
If you have provided payment or believe you are a victim of this scam please contact 702-828-3111 or visit your local police station
Contact District or Justice Court, depending upon your situation.
