It is required by Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS 602.010) that every person doing business in the state of Nevada under an assumed or fictitious name that is different from the legal name of each person who owns an interest in the business must file with the County Clerk of each county in which the business is being conducted a certificate containing the information required by the above Nevada Revised Statute. The filing of a fictitious firm name does not give exclusive rights to the use of that name. An FFN filing is also required by the Business License office before issuing a business license under a fictitious name. A person doing business in this state without complying with the requirements of this chapter or having falsely filed a certificate of termination is guilty of a misdemeanor (NRS 602.090). Each individual business name must have a separate filing. Multiple fictitious names cannot be included on a single certificate.
Where to File
Locations and hours of operation can be accessed here. If you have questions, please call (702) 671-0600.
Fictitious Firm Name forms must be notarized OR signed in person in front of a deputy clerk. If signing in person, you must show a valid government issued photo ID. All signatures must be verified. NOTE: You can use an online electronic notary service for your form so long as the physical documents and payment are sent to our office. The form must clearly contain the notary's seal, name and other required information where applicable on the form. If the electronic notary is not commissioned in Nevada, additional information must be provided on how we can verify the notarization; examples include a copy of the transaction log, link to the official audio/video session, a document providing instructions for online verification with the vendor, etc. If a non-Nevada jurat is used for the notarization page in place of the section on our form, it must specify the type of document being notarized or it will be rejected.
To file for a new fictitious firm name (dba) or renew an existing name, complete the form online and print it out. We do not offer online filing of these documents at this time. You must submit and original form with signatures which we will keep for our records.
