Commissioner Jim Gibson officially opens the newly renovated playground at Silverbowl Park, 6800 East Russell Road, on Wednesday, April 1, at 10 a.m. This renovation project was designed to replace aging, worn-out structures with a modern, safe, and shaded play environment.
The redesigned site now features two distinct play zones to cater to different developmental stages. A massive 30' x 40' playground combo serves as the centerpiece for older children, while a specialized 20' x 25' playground combo provides a scaled environment for younger explorers. These structures are complemented by a brand-new swing set installation.
In addition to the play equipment, a 43' x 24' shade shelter now covers a significant portion of the area, including four heavy-duty concrete picnic tables.
"Replacing the old, worn equipment was a top priority for our community’s safety and future," said Commissioner Gibson. "By replacing the old playground and adding the expansive shade canopy, we have created a space that will serve the community in District G for decades to come."
Silverbowl Park features a large soccer complex with multiple fields, baseball diamonds, and a specialized radio-controlled car track with both paved and dirt surfaces. It offers opportunities for competitive youth and adult sports leagues while providing public amenities such as walking trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas.
