Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick is hosting her tenth annual official Cinco de Mayo celebration, set to take place on Friday, May 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Robert E. “Bob” Price Park.
The event is free and open to the public, and promises an evening filled with culture, community, and activities for all ages. Highlights include piñata bashing, boxing exhibitions, and bounce houses. Live Mariachi bands, DJs and dancers will perform throughout the evening, and exhibitors will be on-site to provide resources for families and community members.
The public is invited to enjoy delicious dishes, including the rich tastes of Mole Poblano, among other authentic cuisines. This family-friendly event is filled with traditional Mexican festivities, all free of charge.
“Every year since its inception, our aim with this celebration is to create a memorable and enjoyable outing, where we celebrate the traditions of Puebla – from its food and drinks to its vibrant dances,” said Commissioner Kirkpatrick. “This event not only honors the historical significance of Cinco de Mayo and the Battle of Puebla but also reinforces the importance of cultural diversity within Clark County.”
Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over the French army in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Though often mistaken for Mexico's Independence Day, the holiday holds significance as a celebration of Mexican-American identity, heritage and resilience.
The park is located at 5852 E. Lake Mead Blvd. at North Sloan Lane. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome. The event is presented in partnership with Joven Progresa Foundation, South Point Hotel Casino & Spa, and others.
