Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones and the Department of Parks and Recreation invite the community to the grand opening of the Desert Breeze Ballfields, 8275 Spring Mountain Road, on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This celebration marks the completion of a major expansion project that provides high-quality recreational spaces for athletes of all abilities. The event is free and open to the public, featuring a variety of family-friendly activities and live baseball games.
The festivities begin promptly at 10 a.m. with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony held at the new Mike Aker Adaptive Field. Following the ceremony, attendees can enjoy exhibition games featuring a four inning “All Star Exhibition” game by the Miracle League of Las Vegas on the adaptive field and Spring Valley Little League games. Throughout the afternoon, families can enjoy face painting, baseball activities, and a photo booth, all while listening to a live DJ and watching performances by the Roger Bryan Elementary School Choir. Food and drinks will also be available to guests while supplies last.
The Desert Breeze Ballfields project represents a significant investment in the community’s West Valley infrastructure. The expansion includes the construction of four new baseball fields built to accommodate youth and community league play, alongside the specialized Mike Aker Adaptive Field. This inclusive space was designed specifically for players with physical and cognitive disabilities and is the first in Nevada to be built and managed by a public entity.
"By adding four new premier baseball fields and expanding our parking and facilities, we are meeting the growing demand for youth sports in the West Valley,” said Commissioner Jones. “However, the heart of this project is the Mike Aker Adaptive Field. This specialized space ensures that every child, regardless of physical or cognitive ability, can experience the joy of hitting a home run and being part of a team. We are committed to building a community where recreation is accessible to everyone, and I look forward to seeing these fields filled with athletes for generations to come."
