Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom is partnering with Nevada Plants for the Big Tree Giveaway, a community effort to reduce the effects of urban heat. On Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., residents can take home one of 200 free trees from the Parkdale Recreation Center to help naturally cool their homes and neighborhoods.

“Planting trees provides shade that cools neighborhoods, lowers air temperatures over time, and helps reduce energy costs for homeowners,” said Commissioner Segerblom. “Offering free trees to residents is a cost-effective way to build resilience against extreme heat conditions and a critical long-term investment in public safety. I encourage our community members to take advantage of this opportunity.”

This effort is especially important in neighborhoods that experience higher heat levels. While rising temperatures affect the entire valley, certain neighborhoods trap more heat due to a high concentration of pavement and buildings, areas often referred to as “urban heat islands.” To help mitigate these effects where they are most severe, priority for the giveaway will be given to residents in the following zip codes: 89121, 89120, 89142, 89122, 89169, 89119.

The free tree giveaway is open to everyone on a first-come, first-served basis. A variety of fruit and shade trees will be available. Participants must have landscape irrigation to receive a tree.

The event will also feature local vendors and free food for the community.
