Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II will host a special ceremony at the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign on Thursday, June 4, at 9 a.m. to celebrate Pride Month and honor The LGBTQ+ Center of Southern Nevada (The Center). The iconic landmark will be illuminated in rainbow colors to recognize LGBTQ+ pride and The Center’s more than 30 years of service to the community.
“Pride Month is a time for our community to come together in celebration, solidarity and recognition of the progress we’ve made and the work that still lies ahead,” said Commissioner McCurdy II. “The Center has been a cornerstone of support, advocacy and healing for LGBTQ+ individuals across Clark County for more than three decades, and lighting this sign in rainbow colors is our way of saying that everyone belongs here.”
“We are proud to once again join our community in celebrating Pride Month by lighting one of the most iconic landmarks in the world in the colors of inclusion, love and acceptance,” said John Waldron, CEO of The LGBTQ+ Center of Las Vegas. “The Rainbow Lighting Event is a powerful reminder that Las Vegas is a place where everyone should feel seen, valued and welcomed. At The Center, our mission remains creating a safe and welcoming space to celebrate and care for the LGBTQ+ community — and to serve all.”
The Center serves more than 200,000 individuals annually across Southern Nevada through its programs, services and partnerships. Its staff, supporters and volunteers contribute more than 22,000 hours of service each year.
