Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II will host a special ceremony at the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign on Friday, July 17, at 6 p.m. to welcome Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® (AKA) and its approximately 25,000 worldwide members arriving for the organization’s 72nd International Boule. The iconic landmark will be illuminated in pink and green — the sorority’s official colors — to honor the convention’s presence in Southern Nevada and celebrate AKA’s century-long legacy of service, scholarship and sisterhood.

“Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority has been a cornerstone of service and leadership for more than a century, and we are proud to welcome its members to Clark County,” said Commissioner McCurdy II. “The energy and spirit that AKA members bring to every community they touch is a perfect reflection of Southern Nevada’s own culture of unity and excellence.”

“The Clark County Welcome Sign lighting is a symbolic tribute to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® and the thousands of members gathering in Las Vegas for the 72nd Boule,” said Danette Anthony Reed, AKA International President & CEO. “This special illumination honors the Sorority’s 118-year legacy of service, sisterhood, scholarship, and leadership, and warmly welcomes members traveling from around the world to Southern Nevada. The sign lighting stands as a visible celebration of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s enduring legacy and its unwavering commitment to service to all mankind.”

Founded in 1908 at Howard University, AKA is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college women. The organization has more than 340,000 members in more than 1,000 chapters across the globe. The 72nd International Boule will take place July 18–24, 2026, in Southern Nevada. The Boule is the Sorority’s premier international business meeting, where members convene to conduct organizational business, strengthen leadership, celebrate achievements, and advance initiatives that create lasting impact in communities globally.
