Clark County Commission Chairman Michael Naft and Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick are partnering with the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) and Foundation for Recovery to host Addiction Prevention and Overdose Awareness Day on Tuesday, August 18. The event, held outside the Commission Chambers, will take place alongside the Board of County Commissioners meeting, where Commissioners Naft and Kirkpatrick will present a proclamation to Moms Against Drugs and the TiNHiH Foundation recognizing August 31 as International Overdose Awareness Day.

During the event, SNHD and Foundation for Recovery representatives will distribute free opioid overdose reversal kits and fentanyl test strips to community members while supplies last. They will also provide information and resources on addiction prevention and treatment options available throughout Southern Nevada.

“As we recognize the approaching International Overdose Awareness Day, we invite everyone to learn about available resources and support addiction prevention efforts,” said Commissioner Kirkpatrick. “Overdose reversal kits and testing strips are available to help save lives. Together, we can make a positive impact.”

“Preventing overdose requires a community-wide effort,” said Dr. Cassius Lockett, District Health Officer for the Southern Nevada Health District. “By expanding access to free, evidence-based overdose prevention resources, increasing awareness, and connecting people to care and other supportive services, we hope to empower more people to recognize the signs of an overdose, respond quickly, and help save lives while supporting individuals on their pathway to recovery.”
