Building on Success, Six More Graduates Complete Life-Changing Treatment Program
The Las Vegas Justice Court will celebrate continued progress in mental health justice reform with its second Mental Health Court graduation ceremony at the Regional Justice Center in downtown Las Vegas on Monday, August 25 at 1:30 p.m.
County Commissioner Justin Jones will deliver the keynote address, joined by guest speaker Robert Banghart, Director of Community Engagement for Crossroads of Southern Nevada. Together, they will honor six graduates who have successfully navigated the comprehensive treatment program, earning case dismissals through their dedication to recovery and personal growth.
Since its launch in February 2024 by Judges Eric Goodman and Nadia Wood, the Mental Health Court has demonstrated measurable impact in breaking the cycle of incarceration for individuals with serious mental illness. This specialized court addresses the complex challenges at the intersection of mental health and criminal justice, offering participants a pathway to stability.
The program's holistic approach connects participants with essential services including secure housing, medication management, individual and group counseling, occupational therapy, and comprehensive wraparound support designed to promote lasting wellness and community integration.
Graduation requirements are rigorous: participants must successfully complete the minimum one-year program, fulfill individualized treatment plans, and maintain sobriety and medication compliance.
“These graduations showcase what's possible when we treat underlying mental health needs rather than simply processing cases,” said Judge Goodman.
“Each graduate represents not just personal triumph, but proof of the program's effectiveness in transforming lives and enhancing community safety,” said Judge Wood.
The ceremony will highlight individual success stories and the collaborative effort of treatment providers, court staff, and community partners who make recovery possible.
The public is invited to witness these inspiring achievements and show support for graduates who have worked tirelessly to rebuild their lives. The ceremony underscores Clark County's commitment to innovative, compassionate approaches to justice that prioritize healing over punishment.
