The Clark County Eviction Prevention and Fixed Income Rent Assistance programs have completed its allocation of available dollars and is no longer accepting applications for rental assistance. The Las Vegas Justice Court Eviction Diversion program continues as a collaborative community program that postpones eviction proceedings to connect tenants with resources like legal aid and rental assistance. This program will continue to expand in the future to meet the needs of the community to the greatest extend possible.
While the remaining funding for the Clark County Eviction Prevention and Fixed Income Rent Assistance program is limited, applications in the current queue will be processed in the order they are received until funding is exhausted; priority will be given to the elderly and people with disabilities referred by the Eviction Diversion Program at the Las Vegas Justice Court.
“We recognize this news may be challenging for those who are experiencing hardship,” said Jamie Sorenson, Clark County Director of Social Services. “This funding has been in place since COVID-19, and our programming has adapted to meet the needs of our community. While the funding is reaching exhaustion, I am proud that over 73,000 residents have been assisted, and we continue to work to support those in need of other resources as best as we can.”
Individuals in need of assistance can contact the Clark County Social Services Call Center at 702-455-4270 for information on other available programs and resources. Through its initial creation, the CARES Housing Assistance Program (CHAP) was a Clark County response to the COVID-19 crisis to support those who were directly impacted by the pandemic to provide housing and utility assistance to low-income families, seniors and employed individuals struggling to pay their housing costs. This initial program was able to allocate more than $375 million in rental assistance to more than 70,000 local households and utility assistance to 60,000 households. The program transitioned to Eviction Prevention and Fixed Income Rental Assistance in December of 2023, to address current housing challenges and to better meet the needs of lower income households. Since this transition, $28,306,198.98 has been provided to 3,778 households.
The Las Vegas Justice Court Eviction Diversion program has recently been boosted by a $15 million funding allocation from the Nevada Legislature. This program works to keep people housed, which is a key focus of the ongoing efforts in the eviction space. This highly successful program targets senior citizens and people with disabilities to ensure that they do not face homelessness and will likely be expanded in the future.
