If you are interested in a career as a firefighter, now is your chance to join the Clark County Fire Department. Today Clark County launched a recruitment drive for candidates interested in becoming firefighters and will be accepting applications online now through September 30. More information about the two-step application process can be found at www.JoinCCFD.org under the Become a Firefighter tab. Those who apply now will be considered for the Clark County Fire Department Fire Academy cohorts to be held in calendar year 2027.

“We are looking for diverse, highly motivated candidates who have a strong desire to serve our community as first responders providing the most critical of services to our neighbors and visitors,” said Clark County Fire Chief Billy Samuels. “Becoming a firefighter is not easy, but it’s one of the most exciting and rewarding careers you can have. I am continuously grateful that I GET to do this.”

The department’s minimum qualifications for firefighters include being at least 18-years-old, having a high school diploma or GED, and possessing a Class C driver’s license. Submitting an application at Government Jobs – Clark County Human Resources begins the process, after which candidates will need to complete an online assessment and video interview through the department’s third-party partner PSA: Public Safety Answers. As the selection process progresses, candidates will be subject to a drug test, a criminal background check, a medical exam and a physical fitness assessment known as the Candidate Ability Test (CAT). Upon receiving a job offer, recruits must complete rookie school through the department’s Fire Academy.

The Clark County Fire Department is the largest in the state of Nevada and is responsible for protecting most of the Las Vegas Valley, including the famed Las Vegas Strip, as well as the resort townships of Laughlin, Primm and Jean. The department has 33 full-time fire stations and 10 volunteer fire stations in rural areas, which received nearly 152,000 calls for service in 2025. The Fire Department also maintains one of only 28 urban search and rescue teams in the country and provides fire and rescue services to the nation’s 5th-busiest airport.
