Commissioner Jim Gibson and Clark County Parks and Recreation are excited to announce the Hispanic Heritage Celebration on Friday, September 12, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The free event will take place at the Whitney Recreation Center, located at 5712 East Missouri Avenue in Las Vegas.
The celebration invites the community to enjoy a variety of free local performances, food, and crafts for the entire family.
"This celebration is a wonderful opportunity to honor the rich history, vibrant cultures, and significant contributions of Hispanic Americans to our community,” said Commissioner Gibson. “It's a testament to the strength and diversity that make our county so special."
The Whitney Recreation Center includes a gymnasium, fitness room, climbing wall, computer lab, and game room, along with a community room available for rentals. Outdoors, the center offers basketball and tennis courts, a walking path, a playground, picnic shelters, and a seasonal pool. Programs cater to both youth and seniors. For younger residents, the center provides a safe after-school environment through "Open Recreation" for ages 6-12 and "Teen Time" for ages 13-17, both of which are free and include activities like arts and crafts, sports, and games. The "Leaders of the Future" program for teens focuses on leadership and community service. Seniors aged 50 and over can utilize the co-located Whitney Senior Center, which offers its own computer lab, bingo, fitness classes, and a lending library.
