The Board of County Commissioners today approved the entitlements for the Animal Resource Center during the Comprehensive Planning Zoning meeting. This facility will serve as a supplemental shelter location for the southwest region to help meet the demands of the community related to animal welfare.

“The approval of the new Animal Resource Center represents a proactive approach to animal welfare in Clark County,” said Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft. “This will help us meet the needs of our growing population and strengthen our Animal Control Officers’ ability to respond to calls for service, support residents, and keep animals close to home.”

The facility will be approximately 9 acres on an over 20-acre parcel located north of Post Road and west of Jones Boulevard within Spring Valley, in District A. It will be 37,000 square feet with an estimated capacity for 172-192 animals, which includes space for dogs, cats, small mammals, and reptiles.

The facility is currently going through the design process, and the County will solicit a provider to oversee the operations of the facility once it is open. The selected operator will have flexibility to implement community programming which may include a drive-up food pantry.

The project is targeted for completion in winter 2028.
