The Las Vegas Justice Court will recognize the achievements of participants in its Community Court Treatment Program during a Graduation and Promotion Celebration scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23. The ceremony will be held in the Regional Justice Center at 200 S. Lewis Ave., second floor assembly room #2342, in downtown Las Vegas.
The Community Court Treatment Program is designed to reduce recidivism and improve quality of life for participants by combining judicial supervision of low-level misdemeanor offenders with comprehensive support services. Through partnerships with nonprofit providers, government agencies, community groups, and justice partners, the program provides access to substance use treatment, education, employment opportunities, and medical and disability resources.
“Community Court represents the collaboration of many partners who are committed to helping individuals succeed while ensuring accountability,” said Chief Judge Melisa De La Garza, who oversees the program. “This graduation is an opportunity to celebrate the progress of participants who are taking meaningful steps toward recovery, stability, and independence.”
Program Requirements and Support
Graduates of the program must complete at least nine months of participation and remain drug and alcohol free for a minimum of 60 days . Each participant follows an individualized treatment plan that may include substance use treatment at varying levels of care, individual and group counseling sessions, and randomized drug and alcohol testing. In addition, the program helps participants reclaim identification documents and reconnect with essential community resources. These include medical, dental, vision, and mental health care, as well as education, employment, housing, financial stability, and family support systems.
Ceremony Access
The graduation ceremony is open to the public, as well as the families and friends of program participants.
