Clark County commissioners on Tuesday approved renaming the Lake Mead Microbusiness Park to the Historic Westside Innovation Commons.

The facility, located at 620 W. Lake Mead Blvd., is in the final stages of construction and is expected to open in early 2027. It combines workforce housing with retail space, private offices and a business support center, and is intended to serve as a regional hub for entrepreneurship, small-business growth and community economic development in the Historic Westside.

Under the County's Facility Naming Policy, a community stakeholder group was convened to solicit name proposals and make a recommendation. The Historic Westside Innovation Commons name was presented to the county's Long Range Planning committee Aug. 26 and recommended for formal adoption.

“This name reflects both where we've been and where we're going,” said Commissioner William McCurdy II. “The Historic Westside has always been a center of entrepreneurship and resilience, and this facility will help carry that legacy forward for the next generation of business owners.”

The center will operate in partnership with UNLV's Office of Economic Development, supporting workshops, business education and small-business growth programs for the surrounding community.

“The Historic Westside Innovation Commons gives local entrepreneurs the space, training and support they need under one roof,” said Shani Coleman, director of Clark County's Department of Community & Economic Development. “Our partnership with UNLV will connect business owners to practical tools and expertise, so they can start, grow and stay in the community they call home.”

Eric Garner joined Clark County on Sept. 28 as the facility's new lead, overseeing its day-to-day operations.
