As part of the County’s ongoing commitment to ensure our parks remain safe, new gates have been installed at the six vehicle entrances at Sunset Park. The newly installed gates will reinforce the hours the park is open to the public (6 am – 11 pm).

“Sunset Park is the crown jewel of the County’s park portfolio, having been enjoyed by generations of residents,” said Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson. “These new gates will help to ensure that activities that challenge the safety of the park in the overnight hours are mitigated as much as possible and represent another resource the County has put in place to increase park safety for the betterment of our community.”

The newly installed gates will prevent vehicle access to the park when it is closed. In 2023, the County began closing restrooms in the overnight hours to reduce unwanted activities such as vandalism. The County has also increased police patrols in parks in addition to Social Service outreach to offer and provide services to individuals who may be in need of county services such as housing or resources.

The County’s no camping ban went into effect in February of this year and prohibits camping in places such as trails, parks, underpasses, washes and tunnels. The County’s enforcement of this ordinance includes attempts to offer resources to those in need as a first step, but those who are not in compliance are subject to additional penalties, as provided bed space is available.
