Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II will host a ceremony at the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m. to honor Las Vegas-born R&B group 702 on the 30th anniversary of its debut album, “No Doubt.” The ceremony will celebrate the group’s legacy and its roots in Southern Nevada.
Original group members Kameelah Williams and LeMisha Grinstead will accept a County proclamation. The ceremony also will honor the memory of founding member Irish Grinstead.
“702 carried the sound of Southern Nevada around the world, and they did it with our area code as their name,” said Commissioner McCurdy. “Thirty years later, we are proud to welcome them home and light the sign in their honor.”
Named for the Southern Nevada area code, the multi-platinum group released “No Doubt” in 1996. Motown Records has announced an official global re-release of the album to mark the anniversary. The ceremony will kick off a weekend of anniversary celebrations in Las Vegas.
