Clark County Department of Public Works begins construction this week on a new pedestrian crossing on Spring Mountain Road east of Arville street that will connect Chinatown Plaza and Shanghai Plaza, one of the most frequently traveled areas in the Chinatown corridor. The project marks the first phase of improvements along Spring Mountain Road designed to enhance pedestrian safety, accessibility, and connectivity in the area.

While activity may not be immediately visible on-site, today marks the official start of construction as crews begin mobilization. Work hours will generally be daily, Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with completion expected within 45 working days. Roadway users should expect lane restrictions, sidewalk detours, and limited access to driveways at various times during the project. There may also be 24-hour lane restrictions in some areas.

The new crossing will include several key safety and accessibility features:

“This crossing represents a major step toward a safer and more connected Chinatown,” said Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones, who represents the area. “For years, residents, business owners, and visitors have asked for safer ways to move between these two vibrant plazas. I’m proud to see this project moving forward as part of our ongoing efforts to create a walkable, welcoming, and culturally distinct corridor.”

The project complements the County’s broader Inspiring Spring Mountain Redevelopment Plan, which includes infrastructure, lighting, mobility, and placemaking improvements along the corridor to support local businesses and celebrate the area’s cultural identity.
