Clark County Family Services will host the Foster Care Roadmap, an open house for prospective foster parents. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Child Haven Gymnasium, 701 N. Pecos Road.
The open house is designed to help families complete many of the foster care licensing requirements within one visit. Attendees will move from station to station, introduce themselves to staff, ask questions and check off steps along the way.
Stations will help families:
- Complete their foster care application, add references, and upload required documents
- Get a required physical and tuberculosis (TB) test at no cost
- Select a date for pre-service training and set up online training
- Finish the first part of car seat safety training and schedule the hands-on portion of the training
- Learn about safe sleep, home safety requirements, and what to expect during the home inspection
Prospective foster parents also can meet members of the Family Services teams they will work with after licensing, as well as meet experienced foster parents, CASA volunteers and staff who can answer questions about child care, education and community resources.
The first 50 families to complete their Roadmap will receive a voucher for free home safety items. Families can redeem the voucher for a Home Safety Kit during their home inspection and licensing visit.
