The purpose of the JAG Program is to provide units of general purpose local government with funding to underwrite projects to reduce crime and improve public safety.
The grant is divided into seven components:

Prosecution & Court Programs, including Indigent Defense

Corrections & Community Corrections Programs

Prevention & Educational Programs

Drug Treatment and Enforcement Programs

Planning, Evaluation, & Technology Improvement Programs
- Crime Victim and Witness Programs (Other than Compensation)
- Mental Health Programs and Related Law Enforcement and Corrections Programs (including Behavioral Programs and Crisis Intervention Teams)
