The Memorial

The profound love for those we have lost, the unwavering strength of their families, the complex emotions of survivors, the heroic acts of bravery, the individual paths of healing, and the remarkable support of the community have deeply influenced every step of our design process for the memorial. As we finalize our proposal, we recognize that this is just the beginning of a much longer journey ahead.

Community outreach has been the cornerstone of our approach to the Memorial Design process. Understanding the diverse stakeholders involved and their specific needs for the space has guided our design and allowed for meaningful input into the purpose of the memorial and how it will serve those most affected by the tragedy. We utilized a multi-faceted approach to ensure input from all key stakeholder groups was obtained in a timely manner and influenced the design process, building upon the existing work established by the committee. Through targeted design-focused surveys of key stakeholder groups, open community design workshops, and ongoing individual meetings with interested community members, we established a solid foundation that allowed for maximum and timely input from the affected community. Community Engagement Statement continued...

Throughout the development of our design, we have prioritized extensive engagement with those affected and have actively incorporated their feedback. One of our primary goals has been to create a visual representation of unity that embraces the diverse experiences and healing processes of individuals, while respectfully honoring the lives that were tragically taken.

Inspired by the community’s deep connection to country music and the site’s connection to the breathtaking landscapes of Las Vegas, our design proposal aims to navigate and convey the broad range of emotions associated with this event and its aftermath. Drawing inspiration from natural elements such as the Colorado River carving through the Mojave Desert, the graceful contours of a guitar, the resilient form of a cactus, and the ancient fossil beds of Tule Springs, our memorial enclosure rises from the landscape as a symbol of unity.

The Unity Ribbon enclosure serves as a physical and symbolic boundary, separating the sacred grounds of remembrance from the bustling urban environment. While providing protection and privacy, the transparent nature of the enclosure allows for visual connections to the surrounding landscape, fostering a sense of openness and harmony. Our design proposal aims to create spaces that celebrate the power of music, the impact of community and dialogue, and the enduring memory of those we have lost. The memorial encapsulates moments of joy, reflection, contemplation, and sorrow, inviting all individuals to enter, regardless of where they may be in their personal healing journey.

As we move forward, we remain committed to refining and expanding upon this design proposal, always guided by the profound impact this event has had on individuals, families, and the community as a whole. The Unity Ribbon Memorial will stand as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the enduring power of unity.
