Commissioner Tick Segerblom and Clark County’s Public Arts Office will unveil a new mural to celebrate Latino Heritage Month on Wednesday, October 7, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Parkdale Recreation Center, 3200 Ferndale Street.

Local artist Juan Cuevas, also known as Quetzal Visions, designed and painted the new mural, Viva Comunidad: Healing Through Unity. Juan was chosen earlier this year to design and paint an existing Conex box at Parkdale. Gathering design feedback and inspiration, Juan facilitated an interactive session with community members and visitors.

“Viva Comunidad: Healing Through Unity is a mural that celebrates the strength, resilience, and interconnectedness of Latino and Indigenous communities. Through vibrant colors, symbolic imagery, and cultural motifs, the artwork reflects the values of unity, balance, and collective identity that are central to the Parkdale community,” said Artist Juan Cuevas. “The mural is designed to honor ancestral traditions while inspiring future generations, transforming the recreation center into a space that celebrates cultural pride, healing, and community connection.”

“The mural reflects a celebration of the culture and identity of our Latino community while creating a welcoming and inspiring visual experience for those who visit Parkdale Recreation Center,” said Commissioner Tick Segerblom. “As the title reflects, this public art mural has given us space and opportunity to unite and heal through art.”
