TPOP Program Connects Kids, Families to Reduce School Truancy

Clark County Television talks to families, social workers and local officials about the success of the Truancy Prevention Outreach Program (TPOP). The program was created by Clark County, the Clark County School District and other community partners to help keep kids connected to their classrooms, reduce truancy and provide direct services to students and their families. Truancy and chronic absenteeism are significant obstacles to student achievement and success in life. The TPOP program developed from the ongoing success of the Harbor Juvenile Assessment Center program, which offers counseling, mentoring, tutoring and other services to prevent youth from entering the juvenile justice services. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, TPOP staff have been working with families to provide computers and other help to connect students to distance learning opportunities and to provide other necessities including food and clothing assistance.
