ANIMAL HANDLER TRAINING COURSE

In accordance with Clark County Code 10.30.190, owners of businesses that provide pet services, as well as their employees who have direct animal contact or job duties related to animal care, must attend an Animal Handler Training Course conducted by Clark County Animal Protection Services.

Employees are required to complete the course within six months of employment. Existing employees will have six months from August 4, 2026 to complete the training. Business owners must complete the training prior to obtaining or renewing a business license. Existing business owners must take the course prior to renewing their business license or within six months of August 4, 2026, whichever comes first. The course must be renewed every two years.

How much does the course cost?

The course is free.

Which businesses are required to participate?

All business owners who provide pet services (including: grooming, boarding, selling, training, professional pet sitting, kennels, catteries, breeders, or any other establishment that sells, grooms, trains, or boards animals) or those who operate a rescue organization must attend the Animal Handler Training Course.

Existing business owners must take the course prior to renewing their business license or within six months of August 4, 2026, whichever comes first.

Business owners described in Clark County Code 10.30.190(a) must also ensure that all employees (excluding volunteers) who have animal contact or job duties related to animal care complete the course. Existing employees will have six months from August 4, 2026 to complete the training.

Veterinary businesses, businesses solely related to equine animals, and contracted shelter facilities are excluded. Animal fosters are not required to attend.

Will this course cover requirements for the City of Las Vegas, City of Henderson, etc?

There are multiple jurisdictions in the area. This course is required for those who practice business within unincorporated Clark County.

How often do I need to take the course?

The course must be renewed every two years.

Are the classes available in Spanish?

At this time, we do not have the course available in Spanish, nor do we offer translation services during the class. However, we are actively exploring options to provide language accessibility in the future.

Are the classes in-person?

The course is held online through Microsoft Teams. Once registered, please download and update the required program at least 24 hours prior to the class date. You will receive an emailed link to join the class.

How will I receive proof that I have completed the course?

A confirmation email will be sent to you after you successfully complete the course.

Please allow up to 72 hours to receive a confirmation of your registration. All registration requests are reviewed to ensure that appropriate requestors are approved to attend the Animal Handler Course.
