General minimum requirements include:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High school diploma or GED
- No felony convictions
- Valid Nevada Class C driver’s license at time of appointment
- Successful completion of background check and drug testing
- Successful completion of medical and suitability evaluations

Candidates are responsible for monitoring their email, following all instructions, meeting deadlines, and arriving prepared for each phase.

The Candidate Ability Test is designed to assess physical readiness for the demands of the fire academy and the Firefighter position. Candidates should begin preparing early and maintain a consistent fitness routine.
The assessment may include events that evaluate cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, core strength, grip strength, and the ability to complete tasks in sequence.
This assessment is pass/fail. Candidates must meet the required standard to continue in the process.

Candidates selected for employment may be assigned to the Clark County Fire Academy. The academy is designed to prepare recruit Firefighters for the physical, mental, technical, and professional expectations of the fire service.
Recruits should expect classroom instruction, hands-on fireground training, physical conditioning, evaluations, and progressive challenges designed to prepare them for emergency response.
