Kimberly Miller’s Analog/Dialogue explores the concept of “generosity” by using her art as the medium to explain it. Miller chose to work with collage and watercolor because they have a handmade quality that can be scarce in the digital age. So rarely do people receive something handmade—whether it’s a meal, a letter, or an object, so when people receive hand-made items they tend to cherish it. Most of what the artist has made for this exhibition will be given away, with the hope that the receiver feels encouraged by the artwork.

Each collage on exhibition has an opening line of text from a letter someone has been meaning to send. The artist requested from friends and family to share the first line of a letter they’ve been writing in their heads for days, weeks or years but for one reason or another hadn’t yet taken the time to put pen to paper and send. The hope is that these unsent lines would inspire visitors to the gallery to send a letter to someone they’ve meant to write too.

All of the artwork in the exhibition is available for free—however, the artist requests that the audience not keep the art for themselves and send it to someone else.

About the Artist:

After over a decade of working in theatre as a producer, director, scenic artist, and stage manager, Kimberly Miller is pursuing a path in the visual arts and writing.  She has been making collages for over fifteen years, and has often created them as a source of encouragement for others. Her collage work has been used for theatrical show posters, postcards, and podcast cover art. Recently her writing has been featured on She Explores and Matador Travel.

She works for a commercial art gallery and spends her after hours time with her husband, daughter, and two cats.  She is the creator of Sober in Vegas (www.soberinvegas.com) where she writes about her newfound alcohol-free lifestyle in Southern Nevada.
